OAP Matse Uwatse releases statement after sack from Nigerian Info

Some of you may have heard that popular Radio Personality Matse Uwatse Nnoli was fired from her job at radio station, Nigerian Info, two years after moving to the station from Wazobia FM where she worked for many years. There have been reports in the media that Matse was fired because 'she lacked discipline and couldn't be called to order'. Matse says this portrayal of her person is totally false and has released a statement exclusively to LIB. Find it below... Dear all, compliments of the day to you. I believe a lot of you must have heard of the recent termination of my job as an OAP (On Air Personality) on 99.3 Nigeria Info Fm. Well, it is true. I have read on several blogs that I was sacked for being arrogant, rude etc. Even recently that I lacked discipline. If I lacked discipline, I wouldn't be successful in my career. I believe discipline, integrity and honesty goes hand in hand with true success. Ask those who have met and known me and they will tell you that this is what I live for. I am not perfect, I have made mistakes but who is perfect? I prefer to be silent on matters like this but since silence is assumed to be consent, I will not consent to my hard earned reputation being dragged to the gutters. I worked too hard for it. On the 2nd of September 2013 while on admission at First Consultant Medical Centre, Lagos. I received an email while on my sick bed, announcing my termination. Honestly, I was not angry but a bit shocked. I had been too sick lately due to my pregnancy and was not at my best but I expected my company to be supportive of me. Yes, I wanted them to be supportive of me because I had worked hard over the years to bring them much glory. I know that I will see all sorts of articles and comments to discredit me but I simply ask this of you all. If you have ever met me and I was unpleasant to you, feel free to vent but If you don't know the real me and all you have heard are insinuations, hold your peace. I love people and always wish them well. My mentees and honest colleagues will testify to this.I love progress because I believe the sky is big enough for all the birds to fly. AIM Consultants. I am not mad at you. I believe when one door closes, another one opens. I have served you well over the years, brought you accolades. So please, let me go in peace and insiders in the Organisation who do not like guts should not use it as an opportunity to tear me down. I am a good person and YOU ALL KNOW THIS! God bless AIM Consultants, I learnt a lot from you and I am grateful. God bless us all! Matse Uwatse Nnoli

Nollywood Actress Gets Beaten By Movie Director's Wife For Having Sex With Her Hubby

It has been reported that a well-known Nollywood actress was given the beating of her life by the wife of a top Nollywood director for allegedly having an affair with her husband. According to Nigeriafilms.com: There is no doubt that Asaba, the Delta State capital has become a home for movie productions in Nigeria. It still baffles many why producers have decided to pitch their tent in Asaba. Investigations by Gists from Edo/Delta have revealed that production is cheaper in Asaba and that is why producers are thronging there to make their movies, but the height of immoralities being practised in Asaba is really giving the people there cause. The latest is that a top Nollywood Director’s wife fought an A-List actress on a movie set in the capital town for sharing her hubby with her. The director is Lagos based but was contracted to do the movie in Asaba. He is a top shot in Nollywood and hails from one of the South-Eastern states. Gists from Edo/Delta learnt that this notable film director, was having a fling with the actress who was playing the lead role in the movie. This actress is fair complexioned also from South East. Sources said the duo were staying in the same hotel in the heart of Asaba. It was gathered that the director had been dating the actress for a while now and his wife was suspicious of it. It was learnt that one of the crew members, who is a close friend of the director’s wife leaked the romance between the actress and the director to the director’s wife. Luck ran out on the actress as she was caught red handed on the bed of the director by his wife. The director’s wife was said to have dragged the actress out of the room after beating her to a pulp and tore her clothes with her upper region jumping out.

I'm Tired ,I'm 35yrs But No Man To Marry Me; - Lady Cries Out

She needs help very fast as age is no longer on her side and no husband yet. Below is her story:
"I am 35 years old and even though seeing other peoples wedding bring joy to my heart, I have gotten to that stage in life where I know now for sure this will never happen for me. I have been hoping for many years, and it’s not that I don’t have suitors, I am far from unattractive, but I just can’t find that guy. No one is perfect I know this, but there are certain things I am looking for in a life partner I haven’t found yet." I believe in being friends above everything else, the shared ideals (religious, life etc) and then a connection. The physical isn’t of great importance, but the men I am meeting these days I can’t even have a connection with and trust me I have tried. I have been in relationships in the past, but it’s always that I gave too little or I gave too much. I am tired it shouldn’t be this hard. I have all but given up but I want to have kids desperately, but I don’t want to be a single mom (nothing against single mothers), my mom and grand mother were single mothers and I felt their struggle I wouldn’t want to go through that. I guess I am the one with the problem… I am tired of hoping, praying, and wishing. I have come to accept this more than likely won’t happen for me, I see a lot of single girls are going through the same struggle, and it seems hopeless. I want to be married, to a man I love, a man with whom I can grow with.” What do you think is the way out for her?

FG RE-OPENS TALKS WITH ASUU OVER STRIKE

THE Federal Government may have reopened dialogue with the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), in a bid to end the over two months old strike. This came just as the National Association of Nigerians Students (NANS) urged both government and ASUU to return back to the negotiation table, with each party willing to shift ground from their previous positions. Indications to the new development with ASUU emerged on Monday, when journalists were called to cover the meeting, which was eventually postponed till next week, with a ministry official saying this was to allow the supervising Minister of Education, Mr Nyesom Wike, get proper briefing on the current standpoint of the issues involved. Wike was joined by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, for the meeting scheduled for 12 noon at the Federal Ministry of Education conference room before it was called off. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the resumption of talks followed the exit of the former Minister of Education, Professor Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i, who was dropped last week by President Goodluck Jonathan alongside eight other ministers. The negotiation between the government and leadership of ASUU broke down over disagreement on payment of academic earned allowance to union members. Meanwhile, the Nigerian students, under the auspices of NANS, have called on both the Federal Government and ASUU to return back to the negotiation table, in order to resolve their differences in good faith. Acting Senate president of NANS, John Shima, while addressing newsmen in Abuja, lauded the sack of Professor Rufa’i and other ministers, as part of the initiatives of President Jonathan to retool the government. “ASUU and Federal Government should go back to the negotiating table. Even after wars, issues are resolved at the roundtable. Nigerian students have been idle for 78 days. “Nigerian students are tired of sitting at home. Both parties are urged to shift ground to ensure quick resolution of the crisis. “We lost almost three years of study time in the last 10 years due to strikes; the lost time being enough to graduate a student in Germany,” Shima said. Meanwhile, Benue State governor, Mr Gabriel Suswam, has vowed to get tough on striking lecturers of Benue State University, Makurdi, by evoking “no work, no pay” policy if they refuse to call off what he described as their “sympathy strike,” which had paralysed academic activities in the state. Suswam said state-owned universities like that of Benue had no reason whatsoever to remain on strike, since it was federal universities and not states that were earlier involved in the negotiation with the Federal Government. Suswam explained that Benue State University had been benefiting fully from the earned allowance for which the Federal Government voted N30 billion and had no cause to be complaining. The governor, while addressing communicant members of the Reformed Church of Christ in Nigeria, at Achusa village, Makurdi, at the weekend, decried the extent to which the strike had gone and admonished the authorities of the institution to expedite action towards suspending the protracted strike for students to resume in the next one week. He condemned the level of dilapidated infrastructure in most state-owned universities, including Benue State University, but applauded the Federal Government for the release of N100 billion to assuage the problem. Benue State University, the governor said, got N950 million for the execution of six projects within the institution, while he expressed optimism that the funds would be judiciously used for the growth of the university.

Stop encouraging corruption, President Jonathan tells Nigerians

While addressing the 54th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Economic Summit that held in Abuja yesterday, president Goodluck Jonathan blamed the level of corruption in Nigeria on the society. He said instead of punishing corrupt people, we reward them. “When you talk about corruption, the private sector is involved; the public sector is involved; even the individuals, including other societies, and I wouldn’t want to mention names so that I will not be attacked. But I know that if collectively all of us don’t reward corruption, people would not be attracted to corrupt practices, but when we all reward corruption, then of course, we will be tempted to go in that direction. “I want a society where all of us will frown against people who come up with what they are not supposed to have. If a young man who just started a job and within six months or a year comes up with a car of N7m to N15m and you clap for him, then you are rewarding corruption." the president said. More when you continue... “So for us as a nation to bring corruption down in Nigeria, it’s not just blaming government or blaming police, but all individuals must frown at people who have what they are not supposed to have, who live in houses they supposed not to live in; who drive cars they are not supposed to drive and who wear suits more expensive they can afford. “And until we, as Nigerians are able to do this, then invariably we are all rewarding corruption and until we stop that, I don’t think we will get to where we want to go. We believe that we should not create an environment where people would be tempted to take what belongs to the public because that is why even in the fertilizer business we talked about electronic wallet, e-Wallet, so that funds are not exposed to corrupt people"

Man arrested for threatening BRT boss with snakes

There was anxiety at the Ketu Bus Rapid Transit depot in Lagos State after a man brought two big snakes to the office of the depot chairman, Chief Sunday Yusuf. PUNCH Metro learnt that the man, Sunday Ogbaide, who was later arrested by the Ketu Police Division, said he was sent by a yet-to-be identified person to sell the snakes to the BRT boss. Yusuf told PUNCH Metro that no one could explain how the suspect gained entrance into the depot. He said, “I was in my office when the man presented two snakes to me. When I asked him what his mission was, he said he was sent by someone who told him that I would be interested in buying snakes. “When I asked him to tell me the name of the person that sent him, he said he did not know the name of the person. “I quickly raised the alarm and the security guards arrived. The man passed through three main gates before arriving at my office. No one could explain to me how he got in.” It was learnt that in the ensuing pandemonium, people attempted to beat up the suspect for bringing the snakes. PUNCH Metro learnt that the BRT boss was able to restore calm after which he called the Divisional Police Officer, Ketu, SP Justin Umar. It was learnt that Umar sent some policemen to the scene to apprehend the suspects and kill the snakes. Yusuf, who was thankful that the snakes did not kill anybody on the premises, described the incident as the handiwork of his detractors. On getting to the station however, the suspect said he was a truck pusher at Ketu Market. He said he got the snakes from Ibadan, Oyo State, and thought he could make a lot of money by selling the snakes to the BRT boss. Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said the suspect would be charged to court on Thursday (today). Braide said, “Around 4.10pm, the BRT chairman of Ketu Depot made a distress call to the DPO who then sent his men there. The suspect was arrested with two big vipers. He will be charged with attempting to induce fear and wilfully endangering human life with dangerous animals.”

Chinese arraigned for attempting to rape Nigerian girl

Two chinese men, Chen Gang, 47 and Zhao Weidong, 31, have been arraigned at the Ebute Meta Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for allegedly conspiring to rape a 20-year-old Nigerian lady, Oluchi Chukwuemeka. The incident was said to have happened at Railway Compound in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos. The men were said to be employees of a popular Chiense construction firm, China Civil Engineering Construction Company. Our correspondent learnt that Chen Gang was the chief cook of the company, while Chukwuemeka was his assistant. He was said to have made several sexual overtures to the girl who ignored them. When the pressures became much, Chukwuemeka was said to have reported the harassment to the policemen guarding the company. Things came to a head on the night of September 15, 2013, when Chukwuemeka, who was on a salary of N24,000 per month, was allegedly lured into the store by Gang. As the victim entered the store, thinking she was being sent on a genuine assignment, she was said to have been followed by the defendant. He allegedly locked the door and began to forcefully unbutton the 20-year-old dress and pull down her trousers. The girl, however, began shouting, which drew the attention of people nearby, including the policemen. The second defendant, Weidong, was said to have rushed to the store and seized the girl’s phone. He allegedly dumped it in the toilet. One of the policemen, however, ran after him and recovered the phone in the water closet. Both men were arrested and arraigned on Wednesday on seven counts of attempted rape, sexual harassment, indecent assault, perversion of justice and willful damage of Chukwuemeka’s handset. The charge read in part, “That you, Chen Gang, on the 15th day of September, 2013, at about 8pm at China Civil Engineering Constructing Company, Federal Road, Railway Compound, Ebute Meta, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did attempt to rape one Oluchi Chukwuemeka. “That you, Chen Gang, on the same date, place and time, in the aforesaid Magisterial District, did sexually harassed one Oluchi Chukwuemeka by struggling with her in an attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her. “That you, Zhao Weidong, on the same date, time and place in the aforesaid magisterial district did willfully destroy a Nokia-200 handset by throwing it into the toilet, property of one Oluchi Chukwuemeka.” The prosecutor, Inspector Moses Uaedmuvbo, said the offences were punishable under Sections 260, 262, 134(2), 170, 91, 97, 348 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011. Gang and Weidong pleaded not guilty. The defence counsel, Fidelis Osordi, pleaded that the accused be granted bail in liberal terms. The magistrate, Mrs. M.O Tanimola, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of 100,000 with two responsible sureties who must be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment. The matter was adjourned till October 17. As of the time our correspondent left the court, the defendants were still in police custody, while a Black Maria had been brought to convey them to the Ikoyi Prison.

The State Security Service has arrested a father of 10, Saturday Dewakei, who allegedly kidnapped Abubakar Adamu, the five-year-old son of his neighbour and killed him when his demand for a N5m ransom was not met. Dewakei, 43, was said to have entered his neighbour’s room at Aso ‘C’ Gbagalape, Mararaba area of Abuja through the ceiling on April 19, 2013 and abducted Adamu while he was asleep.
